Top tools to empower your twitter experience.

Twittering is fun and empowering if you do it right. It puts you in the creative stage using 140 characters – you share opinions, ask questions, engage in conversations, give help, so on and so forth, all in this limited characters. Since I have been Twittering regularly these days, I realized that there are additional tools outside twitter which helps you do more – these tools are growing “Twiterrificaly” in the “Twit-universe”. Twitter API gives developers an opportunity to be more creative in developing tools and services around Twitter. Here are some of them which I use on regular basis.
- Tweetie – I am on mobile most of the time. So I use Tweetie for my iPhone with support of multiple twitter accounts. This is not free in the App Store, it cost $2.99 and worth paying it if you are twittering using multiple accounts. Another cool thing here is TwitPic’s integration, so you can upload pictures to twitpic along with your tweets in Tweetie.
- TwitterFox – What an easy twitter client for Firefoxies! Though the features are limited you can configure your multiple accounts and tweet at twitter speed.
- Seesmic – Cool desktop client with streamlined user interface, with support for multiple accounts. It comes with nice search feature. To download this tool, visit desktop.seesmic.com, and provide your name and emaild. You will get a mail from @loic to confirm your email-id and another one will be sent to you with download link.
- TwitterFeed – If you have blog or site which has regular RSS feed, you can use this tool to automate your tweet from these sites.
- TweetLater – I used this initially for two reasons – to auto follow twitter users who follow me and send auto-reply saying “Thanks..”. I removed both features as my followers may find this as Spam. But another cool feature with TweetLater is sending tweets while you are sleeping or at spa. (Rather, away from your twitter client). Prepare a series of tweets for the followers to click through and make your time-line active.
- TwitPic – I would say TwitPic is the Flickr for Twitter. You can share a picture along with twitter. My tweetie client has TwitPic plug-in, so you can tweet with picture. Twitpic will have your picture and Twitter will have the tweet with a link to the image in TwitPic. Other twitter user can come and comment in twitpic which in turn will send a reply message to your twitter account.
- WeFollow – This is yellow page of Twitter & user powered twitter directory. Add your twitter account(s) to Wefollow.com, with appropriate tag. Then it will group your twitter account(s) based on tags provided and rank based on number of followers.
- ReTweetist – This is a great tool, it looks like an “Alexa” tool for Twitter – provide your twitter account statistics. If your tweets are interesting for the twitter community and your followers, there is possibility that your tweet will get Retweeted by others and bring your time-line popular. Retweetist.com will help you get how many of your tweets are retweeted and see how popular you are in the twitter world.
- TwitterLink – This is another cool stuff if you are using iPhone (Safari browser) to browse Internet. Twitterlink is a plug-in for Safari browser (iPhone) which helps you tweet directly from this browser. It would have been great if they integrated TwitPic with TwitterLink.
- Untweeps – Either you tweet regularly or quit fast from the twitter world! Now there are tools which helps you unfollow twitter users who have not updated, rather not tweeted in last 30, 60, 90 days.
I am sure that plenty of other tools out there growing at Twitter speed. Feel free to share those here if you find it useful. Lastly, if you like this blog, add me in http://twitter.com/messagingblogs to follow my tweets.
