Go Google for things that Bing cannot “decide”
Jun 23, 2009 Featured Article, Tech Buzz
I was little excited when Bing launched with “Boom Boom” on the media spending millions of $$ for campaign. I recently tried few things in Bing and little disappointment when the search results came as compared to Google. Here are few things I did compare side by side between Google & Bing just to see who can decide better
Check Local Time for City
In Google, type “City” followed by the name of the city to see the current time. For the time in same city, Bing gives me a lot of links as normal search engines provides. For example, type “dubai time” in the Google search bar and you get local time in Dubai. But Bing couldn’t “decide” the time when I typed the same keywords

Check Current Flight Information
I searched for United Airlines 803 using “Pages from Singapore” option in Google, and it returns with flight information of UA 803 departing from Singapore to Narita (Tokyo). So i do not need to call the UA help desk or the airport, then be in the long queue to get customer service. But look at what Bing provides, its bunch of irrelevant results. So I couldn’t “decide”.

Currency Conversion – uptodate
To use Google’s built-in currency converter, I entered the conversion from USD to SGD with keyword “20 USD in Singapore dollars” into the Google search box and answer appears directly on the results page as below. You can try many combination here, like “20 usd in SGD” & “20 usd to sgd“. For the same keyword you type in Bing will get you bunch of search results pointing to currency conversion tool. Way behind!

Movies playing in Cinemas now
This looks intersting if you are a movie fan. in Google it takes you to two levels to get a fantastic search result which drill downs to Movie name, the Cinema which plays, show time, address, contact number so on and so forth. Here, I typed “movies” from “Pages from Singapore”, clicked on “Showtime for Singapore” which gives the below google page. You can easily change location of another city by changing “Change Location”. What Bing gives you may not help you “decide” to go for a movie!

Stock Information – realtime
Same goes with Stock market info. I typed MSFT in Google, which gives me a dashboard result with charts and real time ticker. In Bing, if you type Microsoft’s own stock quote “MSFT” it throw some financial related sites. Bing – too difficult to “decide”!

Live Sports scores
I am Tennis Fan and would like to quickly see what the current progress in Wimbledon without me going to site and spend time. Here you go, type “tennis” in Google search bar gives you a simple summary of real time tennis score. In Bing, the result was disappointing.
